Gary Neville slams the former Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic for revealing undisclosed information
According to The Sun, former Manchester United player Gary Neville blasted Nemanja Matic for revealing the dressing room standards at United and comparing them with others clubs he had played for.
Matic, who played 189 games for United over five seasons, recently disclosed this information. The media has been buzzing with criticism surrounding Erik ten Hag‘s team, and Matic claims that Sancho and Pogba were the main culprits were tardy in reporting to training in time during his time at Old Trafford.
While these revelations do paint a better picture of the going-ons at the Theatre of Dreams, Neville has been less than impressed. Speaking on the issue, he revealed:
“But what we’ve heard from Nemanja Matic in the last week about lateness is something that just riles me.”
Neville publicly criticised Matic for violating the confidentiality of the dressing room during the interview. One can understand the stance given the airing of dirty laundry in public.
But then, it also indicates that Sancho has been facing disciplinary issues from before Erik ten Hag’s arrival at the club. It would perhaps swing the debate in the manager’s favour following his exile of the English winger.
On the other hand, Matic has sparked controversy by openly discussing the disparity in standards between Manchester United and his former club and rivals, Chelsea. We cannot lie, we rather Neville be more outraged by the lack of professionalism rather than shooting the messenger.
This is not the first time Matic has disclosed confidential information. He had earlier revealed that Paul Pogba frequently became agitated while in the United locker room.
However Matic did raise a valid point that coming late to training does create a problem for other players. In order to ensure that Sancho arrived on time for training, Erik ten Hag made sure that his schedule was at least one hour sooner than that of the rest of the team. This was done in order to address the issue of Sancho’s tardiness.
