Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini named Roy Keane as a player he always liked
The pop-up shop Classic Football Shirts recently showcased hundreds of legendary football shirts from the game’s history in Los Angeles and Giorgio Chiellini was in attendance.
Juventus legend Giorgio Chiellini was invited to the event by YouTuber Ellis Platten of the Away Days Channel. Platten interviewed him for a series titled “Shirt Shopping,” where Chiellini would select a few shirts to purchase.
An item that caught the Italian veteran’s eye was the 1994 Manchester United home shirt, featuring the name of the club’s renowned midfielder Roy Keane.
Chiellini said:
“If I find, not my idol, but one player I always liked was Roy Keane. Yeah, Roy Keane, sometimes he was too tough, but it’s someone that could really show the emotion of play.”
At the start of the video, Chiellini is seen holding the classic Umbro Manchester United kit with Roy Keane’s name on the back. He was carefully selecting the ones he preferred, ultimately settling on his second choice of jersey. When questioned about his opinion on the material, he seemed a bit hesitant in his response. However, he did mention that it was excellent, possibly because Keane’s name was featured on the back.
Not long ago, Chiellini was considered one of the best centre-backs in the world. He was a pivotal figure in one of Juventus’ most illustrious defensive pairings, alongside Leonardo Bonucci.
Was there ever a chance of him being convinced to join Manchester United? In the video, he now appears to be a devoted admirer of Keane, as evidenced by his enthusiasm for purchasing their jersey.
