According to The Athletic [subscription required], Manchester United might be ready to listen to new offers for Raphael Varane considering how Erik ten Hag is preferring Harry Maguire over him.
Raphael Varane’s frustration at his diminished role at Manchester United goes beyond mere disappointment. It is said that he is frankly irritated with his situation.
Varane, has only been given the opportunity to start in one of United’s previous eight matches. Speculation has arisen regarding his potential departure from Old Trafford in January. Ten Hag has had disagreements with experienced players such as Cristiano Ronaldo and Jadon Sancho, but the Dutchman maintains that Varane’s exclusion from the team is due to strong competition for places.
It’s only natural for a player who boasts medals from four Champions League campaigns and one World Cup displayed proudly at home to be given more minutes to play. At the age of 30, Varane can confidently believe that he still has several productive years ahead of him. He is eager to be on the pitch and has apparently communicated his desires to Erik ten Hag.
Currently, Ten Hag has a preference for other centre-backs. Jonny Evans unfortunately suffered an injury against Copenhagen. Prior to his setback, the 35-year-old was performing well. Varane consumes a significant amount of salary, therefore continuing to have a player who isn’t playing much in the squad will just result in an unneeded increase in costs.
Yet, all said and done, Maguire seems to have resurrected his career at Man United and Erik ten Hag’s trust in him is increasing by the game.

However, whether or not United will let Varane take his career to Middle East or anywhere where the offer is solid will still have to be watched. Until today, United haven’t made that their priority. The loss of such an important player as Varane will also be very painful for the club.
