Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes sympathises with Everton following point deduction
According to the BBC, Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes is saddened by the fact that Everton were meted out a 10-point deduction and says the harsh punishment is something very stressful for any club.
Prior to kickoff, the Toffees supporters came out in force to protest against what they felt was an injury penalty. Pink cards bearing the Premier League emblem above the word “corrupt” were distributed and held up all around Goodison Park.
While Alejandro Garnacho’s goal proved to be the early talking point, one cannot ignore the magnanimity of the injustice that seeped around the Toffees stadium on the night.
Speaking after the game, Red Devils’ skipper Bruno Fernandes had this to say about the situation:
“For the [Everton] players it is not fair and it is from long ago and they are suffering from something they have nothing to do with.”
Fernandes’s show of support makes sense given that clubs such as Chelsea and Manchester City continue to be under investigation for far more extreme allegations with a judgement not near in sight. Surely if Everton’s penalty is the benchmark, the same should apply to other teams too.
That being said, the Premier League cannot be held fully culpable as Everton did in fact commit the transgressions. But it now remains to be seen if the rule-makers will rain down similar penalties on bigger clubs with deeper pockets. Should that prove to be a nog-, then Everton will have every reason to scream injustice off rooftops.
For now, the Toffees have bigger issues on the field as the points deduction sees them fall down to the 19th spot. The weekend’s loss to United showcased a real lack of fight from the home side, something they will need to showcase more of to stave off the drop.
While United players can feel sympathy for Everton, it is time we looked to salvaging our own campaign. Nothing less than a win will do against Galatasaray in the UEFA Champions League midweek, lest we settle for a Europa League spot or make a full exit from Europe before Christmas.

Fernandes’s support will mean little to Everton and one can expect the Merseysiders to continue their protest in the weeks to come. As far as we are concerned, three points was the target at Goodison Park at the weekend and we came away with it in style.
