Manchester United are looking to replace Richard Arnold with former PSG chief Jean-Claude Blanc
According to The Telegraph [subscription required], Richard Arnold is finally leaving Manchester United after sixteen long years and one of the main contenders for taking the role up is Jean-Claude Blanc.
Blanc would come with a strong club history, having played for Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus, two of Europe’s biggest teams. However, Jean-Claude Blanc in late 2022, resigned from that position (PSG) to take charge of Ratcliffe’s INEOS group’s sports portfolio, which included Formula 1 and cycling in addition to football teams OGC Nice and Lausanne-Sport.
Sheikh Jassim withdrew from the contest of taking over the club, though, and the Glazers had always been unwilling to permit a complete sale of the club. The British millionaire, who supports United personally, is getting closer to acquiring 25% of the team, and he intends to eventually unseat the Glazers as the club’s owner.
Ratcliffe is believed to have contributed an additional £250 million in installments for the club’s infrastructure requirements in addition to the acquisition price; nevertheless, this sum would come nowhere close to meeting the expenses of a new or expanded stadium.
After joining United in 2007, Arnold held the positions of group managing director and commercial director until succeeding Ed Woodward as managing director in February of last year.
It is unclear how much Blanc’s position at INEOS would shift in the event that he is given responsibility at United. Still, it seems like Ratcliffe has big ideas for one of his most seasoned personnel, considering his track record in a variety of sports.
