Manchester United are planning to cash in on their defensive midfielder Casemiro to fund Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s squad rebuild
Manchester United are looking to cash in on their midfield general Casemiro to finance a squad rebuild under Sir Jim Ratcliffe. Ratcliffe has bid for a 25% stake in United as both he and the Red Devils fan await completion.
A hamstring injury sidelines Casemiro, potentially causing him to miss most of the December fixtures. The Brazil captain has struggled with his overall form this season despite being in a prolific goalscoring form.
However, the 31-year-old’s main responsibility is to shield the United defence as the deepest midfielder in which he has struggled. Many experts have questioned the ability of Casemiro to live up to the physical demands of the Premier League. Their main point is that the Brazilian has regressed with age to continue performing at the topmost level.
TalkSPORT (h/t Metro) reported that Ratcliffe is open to offering Casemiro for sale to fund United manager Erik ten Hag. Recent reports have linked the Brazil international with a potential move to the Saudi Pro League.
United signed Casemiro from the Spanish giants Real Madrid for £70m with £10m add-ons in the 2022 summer. The 31-year-old started his United career with fantastic performances. He showcased the qualities that earned him acclaim for being one of the best defensive midfielders in the world.
The Brazil captain helped the Red Devils end their six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup. However, Casemiro’s form drastically dropped in the second half of last season and continued into this season.
The Guardian reported previously that Ratcliffe questioned the recruitment policy during the presentation designed for him when he visited United. The Chairman and CEO of INEOS Chemicals pointed out Casemiro’s signing as an example of poor recruitment. The Brazil international is in a massive £350,000 a week contract despite signing in his 30s with a visible decline.

Ten Hag had deployed Casemiro regularly before his injury and we don’t know how much power he may have under a potentially new regime. Casemiro’s off-the-ball vulnerabilities have been evident, yet his on-the-ball qualities remain a significant asset.
