Alan Shearer says 26-year-old has looked ‘unhappy’ at Manchester United this season

Alan Shearer claims Marcus Rashford appears unhappy at Manchester United

Manchester United star Marcus Rashford looks like a pale shadow of his former self and is so far enduring a season to forget in red.

The English international has scored just once in 16 appearances across all competitions for the Red Devils this season His inability to light the park upfront has if anything made life difficult for Rasmus Hojlund while also forcing Erik Ten Hag’s hand given his concerns regarding Jadon Sancho.

Rashford’s poor campaign took another bad turn last week when he was sent off against FC Copenhagen in the UEFA Champions League. The defeat now put the Red Devils in a difficult position ahead of the upcoming games against Galatasaray and Bayern Munich.

The 26-year-old’s fall-off has been spectacular given that he scored 30 times for Manchester United last season. Having signed a lucrative new deal just last summer, the Red Devils have every reason to be miffed with their star man.

Ten Hag’s men won 1-0 against Luton Town at the weekend but Rashford once again struggled to make an impact. Speaking on Premier League Productions (h/t The Mirror), Premier League legend Alan Shearer has claimed that the forward appears to be unhappy on the field.

“I think the simple answer is we don’t know because we’re not within the football club. But what we’re looking at is someone who clearly looks very unhappy. He looks moody, and when that’s the case you’re never going to perform at your best.”

Shearer is the Premier League’s all-time top goalscorer and one of the finest to ever don the English jersey. His assessment that Rashford cannot let mood dictate his performances is apt. At the highest level of football, there is the mantra of perform or perish and unless the United ace rolls up his socks soon, he could find his spot in the XI under

Rashford is a far more threatening attacker when he dons the Three Lions jersey over that of Manchester United. Whatever the reason, it is high time that the attacker gets his act together. United cannot afford to have any more passengers in what should be a pivotal campaign for Ten Hag and the club.

“He looks a different player for England than he does for Manchester United.”

United need their best players to fire all cylinders and Rashford is one of the seniors in the squad. With no other options on the table, it remains to be seen if Ten Hag will persist with Sancho’s banishment should Rashford continue to fire blanks.
