Manchester United legend Steve Bruce urges Rasmus Hojlund to build upon the promising start to life at Old Trafford
Manchester United legend Steve Bruce wants Rasmus Hojlund to take his Champions League goalscoring form into the Premier League. Hojlund scored two goals for United within half an hour of the game in the 4-3 loss against FC Copenhagen.
United are having a poor season with nine losses from 17 games in all competitions this season. The Red Devils have shown vulnerability all over the field as they have leaked 30 goals and only scored 24.
United manager Erik ten Hag cannot afford to lose any more games to achieve the minimum expectation. They are currently lying at 8th in the Premier League table, six points behind the top four spot.
Additionally, the Red Devils are facing an early elimination from the Champions League competition, lying fourth in Group A. They will travel to the hostile RAMS Park stadium to face Galatasaray and then play Bayern Munich at home.
United need their main striker to continue his prolific form to stand a chance against the predicament they are facing.
Bruce told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily (h/t BBC) that Hojlund has all the talent and now the momentum. He said:
“He’s been asked to hit the ground running and he’s only young. That is difficult for any top player walking into United and the demands that come on you. He’s got all the talent in the world. He’s had a good night in the Champions League, he now needs to get up and running in the Premier League.”
United signed Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta for £72m during the summer. Ten Hag prioritized a forward signing to add goals to his team. Before opting to sign the Danish forward, the Red Devils considered linking with prolific forward Harry Kane.
The 20-year-old is yet to score in the Premier League despite being in healthy goalscoring form in the Champions League. However, Ten Hag deployed a new strategy against Copenhagen which got the best out of Hojlund.

The Dutchman played a 4-2-4 formation with rigidity, allowing their primary playmaker Bruno Fernandes in his favourable central advance position. Ten Hag deployed the wide attackers in a role to stretch the opposition and create spaces for the Danish forward.
United plays Luton Town in the Premier League game at Old Trafford on Saturday. The Red Devils fans would hope that the new strategy brings the best out of Hojlund so that he can justify his massive price tag.
