Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes that the club’s home loss against Galatasaray might cause their early Champions League exit

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes bemoaned the early home defeat against Galatasaray after the FC Copenhagen loss. United are facing early elimination from the Champions League after losing 4-3 away at Copenhagen in their Group A game.

The Red Devils have lost three games in the Champions League so far this season. United started the campaign with an away loss to Bayern Munich and then followed by a home loss to Galatasaray. After a second-half red card for Casemiro, the Turkish club secured a 2-3 victory at Old Trafford.

United will face Galatasaray next in their well-renowned hostile RAMS Park stadium. The must-win fixture will determine the Red Devil’s campaign as reaching the knock-out stage is a minimum expectation.

United will also face Bayern Munich in the final Champions League Group A fixture at Old Trafford in December. Scholes emphasised the need to win the home matches to achieve qualifications for the knockout stages.

Scholes told TNT Sports (h/t BBC) that United are going to struggle against Galatasaray after losing to them at home. He said:

“It’s the home games that you have to win in the Champions League. Get your nine points and then scrape a draw away. We know Galatasaray have more quality than Copenhagen.”

The Red Devils have lost nine out of their 17 matches in all competitions this season. United have conceded 30 goals and only scored 24 in return as they struggled all over the pitch.

United manager Erik ten Hag has failed to find a balance and cohesion within the squad to achieve consistent results. Many experts criticized the Dutchman for forsaking the philosophy that earned him success during his time at Ajax.

The Red Devils are also facing an uphill battle in the Premier League, currently in 8th position in the table. United needs to find consistency to achieve the top-four finish this season, which is a minimum expectation. Ten Hag’s men will host Luton Town on Saturday before the club football takes the international break.
