Manchester United are interested in the Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg despite Atletico Madrid’s interest
According to the Italian outlet Corrieredello Sport, Manchester United are pushing for Tottenham midfielder Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg despite competition from the Spanish giants Atletico Madrid. Under Ange Postecoglou, the Denmark international has not been a first-choice player, and could be looking to join a new team shortly.
This season, the Red Devils have struggled in centre midfield due to Casemiro’s decline in play and the assimilation of recent additions Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat. This has sparked rumours about whether United may decide to address this issue by entering the transfer market in January.
He will be a serious competition for United as Juventus and Atletico Madrid badly lack midfield reinforcements due to the banned duo of Paul Pogba and Nicolo Fagioli. However, it is not clear whether the Reds plan to offer him a long term contract or a loan deal should we reach that point.
Hojbjerg is very experienced in the Premier League and will not need time to adapt to the demands of the English top flight. Despite being used sparingly by Ange Postecoglou, the 28-year-old has been the consummate professional, stepping up to the plate and making a difference.
Erik ten Hag would undoubtedly have an experienced mind to turn to in Hojbjerg, who could also ease the pressure on Casemiro in holding the fort in central midfield.
Spurs’ intention to sell rather than provide a loan could hinder a move for Hojbjerg. However, Hojbjerg’s previous experience coaching a Bayern Munich B squad in 2013 means that United manager Erik ten Hag is aware of the skills on offer.
