Manchester United have resurrected their interest in Real Betis star Guido Rodriguez to solve their midfield woes.
Manchester United have a strong interest in signing Guido Rodriguez as his contract expires at the end of the season. The Real Betis star can negotiate a pre-contract agreement with the Red Devils from January 1st onwards.
The Red Devils are currently short on defensive midfield options with a recent long-term injury to Casemiro. The Brazilian captain is the regular name in manager Erik ten Hag’s first team despite struggling for form.
United’s summer signings Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat have also failed to make an impact in the senior team. Ten Hag has deployed in-form Scott McTominay as the No 6 in the last game against Fulham. However, the United manager tried to sell the Scottish midfielder during the summer and his importance remains a doubt.
Spanish sports daily newspaper Estadio Deportivo reported that United have returned with force to sign Guido Rodriguez. The Argentina international was the Red Devil’s target but his importance to Betis made it harder to pry him away.
The 29-year-old, with his well-timed tackles and sound decision-making, excels as a highly experienced defensive midfielder in winning duels. Rodriguez uses good positioning and anticipation to nullify the attacks and shore up the spaces left by his teammates.
The Argentine is fully capable on the ball and keeps things tidy in possession while making himself available. He prefers to leave progressive play to his more creative teammates while working as a support system.
United have struggled to find balance in their team this season, losing eight out of 16 matches in all competitions. Many football experts have criticized Casemiro for being culpable in many opposition attacks that led to goals.
The opposition midfielders bypassed the Brazilian captain rather easily, and the Red Devils’ defence looked regularly exposed. However, Casemiro has been prolific in front of goals and still possesses incredible quality on the ball.
The 31-year-old needs a much better defensive midfield partner who can nullify his weaknesses and secure the channels and spaces,
