Manchester United looking to negotiate swap deal for 27-year-old Flamengo striker

Gabriel Barbosa is a huge talent

Manchester United interested in the Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa

According to the Mirror, Manchester United are interested in signing the Flamengo striker Gabriel Barbosa, but there’s a twist to it. United would like to sign him in exchange for our Brazilian winger Antony.

Barbosa, 27, scored 20 goals in various competitions for the club this season and will be transfer-listed towards the end of 2024 after which his contract expires. Additionally, Flamengo could consider a loan deal of Brazilian teammate Anthony from United as a swap for a Brazil international with five caps and 18 appearances to date.

Marcus Rashford, who scored 30 goals the previous season, has only scored once for United. While Alejandro Garnacho and Anthony Martial have each only scored once, Rasmus Hojlund has scored three times. It’s a concerning scenario for the attackers who are failing to score day in and day out. It seems that the midfielders are only carrying the club each matchday.

Antony, aged 23, who was valued at £82million when he transferred to Ajax during 2022, has so far played eleven matches without scoring.

Hojlund’s wait for a Premier League goal goes on in the meantime. At Craven Cottage, the Dane led the line, but with just over ten minutes of regulation time left, he was taken off. As he took his place among the replacements, he had an angry expression.

After disappointing stints at clubs like Inter Milan in the past, Gabriel Barbosa will be looking to establish himself in European football this time around.
