West Ham United manager David Moyes backed Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag amid a nightmare season.

West Ham United manager David Moyes asserts under-pressure Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag can turn things around this season. United are having a nightmare season as the senior team suffered from an injury crisis and poor individual performances.

The Red Devils lost two consecutive games at Old Trafford against Manchester City and Newcastle United. The Citizens won 0-3 against the Red Devils in the Premier League by dominating the game with possession and shots.

On the other hand, United played a more possession-based football against Newcastle but failed to create threatening chances. The Magpies carved United’s backline with counter-attacks and the hosts crashed out of the Carabao Cup with a 0-3 scoreline.

United appointed Moyes as the successor to their legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson after the Scotsman retired a decade ago. Ten Hag is the sixth manager for the Red Devils since Ferguson retired as United struggled to win major trophies.

Moyes insisted (h/t Mirror) that Ten Hag has done “good things” and that he has the support of the board. He said:

“As long as he continues to get good support from the board, which it sounds like he has, it’s only speculation from other people. But it sounds like he’s getting great support from their board and if you’ve got that you’ve got a great chance of improving results, which gives you more time. Ultimately if you manage Manchester United, it’s a pressure job and you’re expected to win with a really good style. Erik ten Hag has done a lot of really good things.”

The Red Devils appointed Ten Hag during the 2022 summer and backed him by providing more control in player recruitment. The Dutchman guided United to the third position in the Premier League, helping them achieve the Champions League qualification.

Furthermore, the 53-year-old ended the Red Devils’ six-year trophy drought by winning the Carabao Cup last season.

Many football experts criticized the Dutchman for shunning his successful football philosophy that he used at Ajax. His impressive tenure with the Dutch club earned him global reputation and the managerial post at United.

Ten Hag has failed to build team cohesiveness and balance that has created vulnerability in both defence and in attack. The Dutchman need to figure out the solution so that United can achieve their minimum expectation for this season.
