Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes admits that the current situation is not acceptable despite Fulham win
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes acknowledged that the team’s performance has not been up to the mark this season. The 29-year-old scored a late winner against Fulham in the Premier League game at Craven Cottage this Saturday.
United lost two consecutive games at Old Trafford in a humiliating fashion before travelling to Greater London. The Red Devils lost 0-3 to Manchester City in the Premier League Manchester derby last Sunday. Furthermore, they crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing 0-3 to Newcastle United during the mid-week.
United manager Erik ten Hag faced immense pressure after the losses as the nightmare season went from bad to worse. However, Fernandes gave the Red Devils much-needed relief with his late winner against Fulham that earned them three crucial points.
Fernandes told TNT Sports (h/t Mirror) after the game that his team is well aware of the predicament, they’re in. He said:
“Everyone knows the situation is not the best. The performances over our last few matches have not been good obviously, the results too, but today it was a different game. We had to show something different and we delivered, we got the three points and that’s what mattered.”
The Red Devils have lost eight out of the 16 matches in all competitions this season. Ten Hag’s men have only scored 21 goals while conceding 26 in return as they showed vulnerability in many areas.
Many experts have criticized the United boss for failing to build team cohesiveness and implementing his philosophy. Ten Hag earned a great reputation for his style of play during his tenure at Dutch club Ajax.
The United boss has implemented different approaches to accommodate the players he possesses at the club. Ten Hag appointed Fernandes as the senior team captain during the summer before the current season began.
The Portugal international has been a consistent performer for the Red Devils in the last couple of years. However, the 29-year-old has only managed two goals and three assists this season while making 14 appearances in all competitions.
