Mercedes Formula 1 boss Toto Wolff open to joining Sir Jim Ratcliffe at Manchester United

Mercedes Formula 1 chief Toto Wolff is no stranger to fans of the sport and he could soon be donning the colours of Manchester United should Sir Jim Ratcliffe choose to get him on board.

This comes in the wake of the British billionaire’s bid to purchase 25 percent of stake in the Red Devils, having beaten off competition from Sheikh Jassim.

While the takeover is still a little ways away, Sir Jim is keen to secure control of the football operations side of United. Given the club’s stuttering start to the current campaign and recent fall from grace, it will be curious to see how the changes at the board room level can trickle down onto the field.

Wolff is one of the most prominent faces in Formula 1 and played a key role in Mercedes dominating the sport with Lewis Hamilton at the helm. However, they have now ceded both the drivers’ championship and the constructors championship to arch-rivals Red Bull Racing.

Speaking to Sky Sports (h/t BBC), Wolff revealed that he could very well join Sir Ratcliffe’s bid to take over at Old Trafford. A very competent decision maker, him joining the bid would make for serious reading indeed.

“If we felt I could contribute then I would consider joining him at Manchester United.”

The Austrian has an excellent working relationship with Sir Jim given their association at Mercedes. Both own a third of the shares and appear to be on good terms with each other.

Wolff is very competitive by nature and it is visible for anyone who watches Formula One. He is not adverse to making difficult decisions and is drawn by the competitiveness of the Premier League. Given the competition in the English top flight, a no-nonsense person helping call the shots is long due.

“I have never aimed for trophy investments but I like the competitiveness of the Premier League.”

Curious to say, we are very much on board with Wolff potentially playing a role at the club. The last time we brought in a no-nonsense decision maker in Ralf Rangnick, that marriage was cut short before it could be consummated. Hopefully, if Wolff does come in, it will turn out differently this time around.

However, we are getting ahead of ourselves as investment is still not close. Whether the Austrian’s love for Pep Guardiola will rub the Red Devils faithful the wrong way remains to be seen.
