Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag brands the conduct of forward Marcus Rashford after the Manchester derby as “unacceptable”
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag criticized the “unacceptable” decision of Marcus Rashford to party after the Manchester derby loss. The 26-year-old partied with his close friends after the humiliating defeat at Old Trafford to celebrate his birthday.
United lost the Premier League Manchester derby 0-3 at Old Trafford on Sunday as Manchester City dominated the game. The Red Devils used cautious tactics and relied on Rashford and Rasmus Hojlund to provide a counter-attacking threat.
However, Ten Hag’s team failed to muster any potent threat as the Citizens outplayed them in every area. City had 10 shots on target out of 21 shots as United managed three out of just seven shots. The United boss substituted Rashford in the 86th minute for Anthony Martial after yet another poor display.
In the press conference (h/t Independent), Ten Hag announced that Rashford’s apology has prompted the internal resolution of the matter. He said:
“I am aware of it. I spoke with him about it. It’s unacceptable. I told him, he apologised and that is it. For us, it’s an internal matter.”
Rashford is playing his ninth season at the club since earning the promotion in February 2016. The 26-year-old has suffered from inconsistency that has kept him from delivering with prolific consistency season after season.
The England international has appeared in 373 matches for the Red Devils while scoring 124 goals and providing 71 assists. He was the leading goal scorer for United last season which was Ten Hag’s first season at the club.
Rashford has struggled to carry his last season’s success into the current season as he is facing a goal draught. The 26-year-old has appeared in 14 matches in all competitions while contributing with one goal and three assists.
Many fans and football critics have pointed towards the Englishman’s selfish and one-dimensional style of play. Rashford has the ability to beat the defenders and exploit spaces on the left side of the opposition channels.
However, the 26-year-old relies too much on cutting inside and shooting for goals and that makes him predictable. The England international acts selfish at times when he has teammates in better position to receive an assist and score.

The Dutchman has deemed the actions of Rashford as an internal matter which makes it highly unlikely that we would know the disciplinary action he faced. We do not think that personal lifestyle should matter as long as the player Is fulfilling his professional duties.
Nevertheless, Rashford should be fully aware that he is a global personality and many youngsters idolize him. The England international is earning massive wages at the club he loves and he need to start justifying it.
