Manchester United needs to resolve the ownership situation to secure clarity on the position of Erik ten Hag
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is facing uncertainty over his future due to the unresolved ownership situation. Sir Jim Ratcliffe made a bid to secure a 25% stake in United as the football world waits for conclusion.
The United board will vote on the Ratcliffe bid, and a successful purchase may potentially change the club’s hierarchy. The conclusion of the deal can have a direct effect on the position of Ten Hag at the club.
Ten Hag has enjoyed control of the club’s recruitment policy alongside the responsibility that comes with a manager role. The Dutchman has recruited many players that had played under him before. The 53-year-old managed Lisandro Martinez, Antony, and Andre Onana during his time at Ajax. Furthermore, new signing Sofyan Amrabat played under the Dutchman during their time together at Utrecht.
BBC reported that United need quick clarifications over the ownership situation to see where Ten Hag stands in the plans. Ratcliffe and the INEOS consortium want to control the football operation and would have a say over the managerial role.
United appointed Ten Hag as their manager during the summer of 2022 after his successful tenure at Dutch giants Ajax. The Dutchman became the first manager since Louis van Gaal to take Ajax to the Champions League semi-final in 2018-19. Van Gaal took the Dutch club to the Champions League semi-finals in the 1996-17 season.
Ten Hag enjoyed a successful start at United by finishing third last season and qualifying for the Champions League. Furthermore, the 53-year-old ended a six-year trophy drought by guiding the Red Devils to the Carabao Cup victory.
Ten Hag successfully built a strong defence for United last season that kept the most clean sheet in the Premier League. Prolific performances from the likes of Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes helped the Dutchman deploy a strong counter-attacking style.

However, the current season has been a disaster for the Dutchman as United crumbled to eight defeats in 15 matches. Ten Hag has failed to build strong team chemistry and a dominant style of play within the squad. We think assurance over Ten Hag’s future will help the manager and the player shift their full focus to football. United need to start winning with consistency to stand a chance to challenge for the top-four position.
