Manchester United midfielder Casemiro ruled out of action after sustaining a hamstring injury
According to the Daily Mail, Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has been ruled out for “several weeks” after sustaining a hamstring injury against Newcastle United earlier in the week.
The Brazilian started the game with the armband on but was taken out of the match at Old Trafford at halftime. United supporters held their breath, hoping for good news from his evaluation thereafter. Erik ten Hag is under increasing pressure after his team lost eight of its first fifteen games of the season across all competitions. This is just the latest setback for the Dutchman.
Following the Newcastle defeat, Ten Hag had already all but ruled out the 31-year-old for this weekend’s match against Fulham. He is now expected to spend the upcoming few weeks on the sidelines.
Speaking ahead of the clash vs Fulham, Ten Hag more or less confirmed the player’s unavailability for the weekend. Since then, we have also discovered the extent of his injury.
“Just before half-time, he got an injury. That’s why we had to take him off. We have to wait 24 hours, but I think definitely for Saturday, he is out.”
Casemiro’s absence occurs at a precarious time for United as pressure mounts on Ten Hag following a poor start to the season. Following the trip to Fulham, United will play Luton at home before travelling to Copenhagen for a crucial Champions League match.
Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, and Casemiro among others have all been ruled out, thus United will likely turn to their bench to provide cover. The drop-off in quality should be large and it should impact our ability to start the game on the front foot.
Sofyan Amrabat, a recent addition, has had difficulty establishing himself, and Casemiro’s absence should now see him be handed an opportunity to impress. Whether the Moroccan can be United’s salvation remains to be seen.
