Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag declares that “sticking together” is the only way out of the current plight
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag emphasized the importance of unity in the face of adversity after consecutive home losses. United crashed out of the Carabao Cup after losing 0-3 to Newcastle United at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils suffered their back-to-back home defeat as they lost 0-3 in the Premier League Manchester derby on Sunday. Manchester City dominated United throughout the game as Ten Hag deployed a cautious tactical approach that failed miserably.
Contrary to Sunday’s approach, Ten Hag’s men dominated possession against the Magpies but failed to create a substantial threat. Newcastle managed to carve through the United’s midfield and defence with their counter-attack and managed to keep a clean sheet.
Ten Hag spoke to Sky Sports after the humiliating defeat and asserted the need for unity among players. He said:
“Players will stand up, they are sticking together – you have seen, they have tried. But we know this is not good enough, and as I said, I’m responsible for this, and we have to do this together. You have to be disciplined and you have to do it with togetherness, everyone has to take responsibility, be accountable and co-operate. That’s the keyword”
Ten Hag has failed to build cohesiveness and consistency within the team as they look like a bunch of individuals. United have lost eight out of 15 matches in all competitions so far this season.
United have suffered from an injury crisis and poor individual performances which added to their lack of team chemistry. However, a club with so much squad depth and investment cannot excuse themselves with common issues that every team suffers.

United need to work as a team to stop leaking the goals and minimize individual mistakes. They have conceded 26 goals in all competitions which is opposite to the fortification they enjoyed last year. The Red Devils had the most clean sheets in the Premier League last season which helped them achieve the Champions League qualification.
Ten Hag is facing an uphill battle as United cannot afford to lose more games if they want to achieve minimum expectations this season.
