Manchester United are interested in signing AC Milan striker Rafael Leao
According to Calcio Mercato (h/t Express), Manchester United are interested in signing the AC Milan talisman Rafael Leao to bolster the team’s attacking traits.
The two high-profile additions at Old Trafford last summer were Mason Mount and Andre Onana, but neither of them have yet to make a big impact in red. In addition to losing five of their first ten Premier League games of the year, Ten Hag’s team was soundly defeated by Newcastle United on Wednesday, eliminating us from the Carabao Cup.
Undoubtedly, United will consider adding more quality players to their roster throughout the upcoming transfer windows. Given the issues surrounding our wingers, it comes as no surprise that Leao is on our radar.
The Portuguese ace finished the previous season with 15 goals and 10 assists, and he was a major contributor to the team’s run to the Champions League semifinal. However, it is now uncertain whether he will stay at the San Siro in the long run.
If Leao were to sign with United, he would compete with Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford as he plays off the left. The 24-year-old is a prolific goalscorer and is in many ways a more consistent version of Rashford.
In that region of the pitch, Alejandro Garnacho is another choice. This season, the Argentina international has mostly played off the bench as Rashford’s backup. However, neither player has hit the necessary numbers.
Jadon Sancho is still sidelined and might leave in January. Antony continues to flounder while Mason Greenwood might have played his last game for the club. It thus makes sense that we are after Leao.
While the 24-year-old is a sensational attacker, it will matter for little unless we can come up with a tactical plan to get the best out of him. The best tools are after all as good as chunks of wood in the hands of an amateur.
