Erik ten Hag confirms that Manchester United star Casemiro will miss the Premier League clash against Fulham
Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag confirmed that Casemiro would miss the Premier League game against Fulham on Saturday. The Brazilian picked up an injury during the 0-3 loss against Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup at Old Trafford.
The midfielder began the game as United’s captain but Erik ten Hag substituted him for Sofyan Amrabat during halftime. The 31-year-old picked up a knock during the October international break and missed two games before returning against Newcastle. Another spell on the sidelines now beckons.
The 31-year-old has been a pivotal part of Ten Hag’s set-up as the first-choice defensive midfielder since joining the club. United signed Casemiro from La Liga giants Real Madrid in the summer of 2022 when Ten Hag took over.
The Brazil captain started his United career in sensational form last season, helping the club end their six-year trophy drought. Casemiro scored the opening goal in the Carabao Cup final against Newcastle United helping them win the trophy.
However, the 31-year-old has failed to take his last season’s form into this season. Many fans and football pundits have criticised the Brazilian midfielder for his overall performance despite being in goalscoring form.
Ten Hag confirmed via BBC that Casemiro would miss out on Saturday’s Premier League game against Fulham. The Brazilian adds to the injury crisis that has plagued United for a while now.
Casemiro has appeared in 12 games for the Red Devils in all competitions while contributing four goals and an assist. Nevertheless, the 31-year-old has failed to protect the backline from midfield attacks and looked visibly exposed in the centre.
Opposition midfielders easily bypassed the Brazilian, and he lacked the energy and pace to keep up at times. Ten Hag signed Mason Mount and Sofyan Amrabat to compensate for the weaknesses in Casemiro’s game. Unfortunately, both the new signings have failed to live up to the expectations so far.
