Manchester United are interested in signing Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah
According to TEAMtalk (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United are now considering a move for the Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah.
In the upcoming months, Chalobah will depart Chelsea, and a competition is already underway to sign the defender. The summer transfer window saw the England youth international very close to leaving, but a deal fell through, and his club wants him off the books.
He became part of Chelsea when he was still thirteen years old and has so far played in sixty-two senior games for the team he grew up playing with. The 24-year-old defender hasn’t played in a competitive match for Chelsea this season following his hamstring injury. He last played for the team in a friendly match against Fulham in July.
Chalobah will be driven to succeed in the Premier League and might provide Manchester United with an extra advantage. Whether Chelsea are willing to transfer the talent to a direct competitor will be interesting to watch.
Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United is likely to need to make some outgoings in order to fund any major winter signing, thus it is unclear if they will engage in a bidding war.
The exact return date for Lisandro Martinez still is unknown but he is expected to be back in action at the beginning of the following year. There are implied concerns as well, considering that this is the same injury that forced Argentine to miss the rest of last season.
At this point in his career, Chalobah will want to play frequently, therefore before a deal can happen, Manchester United may need to guarantee him playing time.
