Reliable journalist Ben Jacobs squashes return rumours of Manchester United legend David De Gea
Journalist Ben Jacobs has squashed the rumours suggesting Manchester United legend David De Gea return to the club. Rumours suggested that United offered De Gea a short-term contract to return.
The 32-year-old left the Red Devils during the summer after failing to accept the new terms during his contract talk. United’s offer was significantly less than the wages De Gea received during his previous contract.
United manager Erik Ten Hag will be without Andre Onana for a significant amount of time in January. The 27-year-old will represent his nation, Cameroon, in the Africa Cup of Nations.

Jacobs told GIVEMESPORT that there is no truth behind the rumours about De Gea’s return to Old Trafford. He said:
“There is no truth in David De Gea returning to Manchester United, as far as I’m aware. We know that De Gea was disappointed with his Manchester United exit because there was no clarity right up until when he became a free agent. I don’t even think that De Gea, from people I speak to, would be open to returning if Manchester United did try.”
United signed Onana from Serie A side Inter Milan as De Gea exited from the club after his 12-year stint. The Legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson signed the Spaniard to replace another United legend, Edwin van der Sar.
De Gea fortified the Red Devils’ goalpost despite the club’s demise to mediocrity since Ferguson left. The 32-year-old remained loyal despite the regular interest from top European clubs.
De Gea broke Peter Schmeichel’s record for most clean sheets in the United’s history in February 2023. The Spaniard has won the Premier League Golden Glove twice during his time with the Red Devils.
De Gea’s performance received criticism last season but the Spaniard had a knack for bouncing back to his best. However, Ten Hag opted to sign Onana, a goalkeeper he had worked with before, during their time together at Ajax.
Many fans and football experts have criticized Onana for his performances this season. The Cameroon international has made several critical errors that have cost his team dearly.

De Gea remains a free agent as he is looking to join a top club and finish his career on a high. The 32-year-old had offers from Saudi Pro League which he decided to reject as money is not his main motivator.
As a United fan, De Gea has actively shown his support for the club and his former teammates. However, we think the way he departed from the club under the current management has left a sour taste in the Spaniard. Ten Hag would need to find other solutions when Onana departs for international duties during the congested January fixture.
