Injured Brazilian midfielder Casemiro to miss Manchester United’s clash with Sheffield United on Saturday
Manchester United midfielder Casemiro has sustained an ankle injury while on international duty with Brazil. The 31-year-old will miss the Premier League clash against Sheffield United on Saturday at Bramall Lane.
The Brazilian international has featured in every game for the Red Devils this season. Casemiro has made 11 appearances in all competitions while scoring four goals and providing one assist for the club.
Many fans and pundits have criticized the overall performances of Casemiro as opponents found it easy to bypass him. The 31-year-old looked out of pace and energy at times and couldn’t shield the defense as he used to.
According to the reports (h/t Sky Sports), United advised Casemiro to remain in Brazil in order to aid his recovery. The player accepted the advice and, as a result, he will miss the clash against Sheffield. However, the Brazil international will return to Carrington next week and resume his training at the club.
Casemiro joined his national team after making back-to-back errors in the two games before the international break. The Brazil captain received a red card against Galatasaray after making a reckless tackle that changed the dynamic of the game.
The 31-year-old was responsible for the Brentford goal in the subsequent game when his poor pass allowed a counter-attack. Scott McTominay came on as a late savior against Brentford with two extra-time goals to secure the win.
United signed Casemiro from La Liga giants Real Madrid for £60m plus £10m addons in the summer of 2022. The Brazilian had a brilliant start to the Red Devils’ career and helped them win the Carabao Cup.
He scored the opening goal in the final against Newcastle United in a 2-0 victory. The Carabao Cup win ended a six-year trophy drought for United and added another accolade to Casemiro’s luxurious career.

We think United manager Erik ten Hag should use the situation and allow McTominay or Hannibal Mejbri. The duo has received limited game-time so far this season but delivered good performances when called upon. McTominay’s heroic display against Brentford just before the international break should earn him more starting chances.
Casemiro will likely take back his starting role once he returns. Ten Hag’s trust in the 31-year-old has not diminished despite the criticism of his performances.
