Reports provide a rough estimate of the potential return of Manchester United star Tyrell Malacia
Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia has been missing in action since the start of the current season. The 24-year-old played in the final matchday of the last season for the Red Devils against Fulham.
Malacia missed the pre-season due to his long-term injury and continued to be an absent figure in the United squad.
United have lost six out of 11 matches they’ve played so far in all competition this season. United manager Erik ten Hag has to deal with an injury crisis and the most affected position was the left-back department. Long-term injuries have sidelined both senior team left-backs, Luke Shaw and Sergio Reguilon, in addition to Malacia.
The Red Devils signed Malacia in the summer of 2022 as the Dutchman was Ten Hag’s first signing at the club. The 24-year-old has played 39 matches for the Red Devils so far without any contribution towards goals or assists.
Manchester Evening News reports that Malacia was on crutches and spent some time in his home country to recover. The Netherlands international endured a knee injury last season, and for the time being, United managed it with pain injections.
However, surgery became the only option eventually for the Dutchman. The report states that they expect the 24-year-old to return before the New Year.
Ten Hag had to utilize new midfielder Sofyan Amrabat as a makeshift left-back in several games. The Moroccan’s performances at the left-back position in the consecutive loss against Crystal Palace and Galatasaray received a lot of criticism.

The Netherlands international would require cautious game management once he returns. On the other hand, the Red Devils’ need for a natural left-back is urgent. There are speculations about Ten Hag looking for another left-back in the January transfer window to strengthen the squad.
It is too soon to tell whether the United boss will have patience or if he buys another left-back. United fans eagerly anticipate Malacia‘s return, as they have endured a challenging season, much like their Dutch manager.
