Manchester United target Takefusa Kubo amongst the top-priority list despite Real Madrid connections

According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes, Manchester United are interested in signing Takefusa Kubo of Real Sociedad despite knowing that Real Madrid are still the favourite to sign the talented player.

After making a significant improvement in his play at the beginning of the season—scoring five goals and dishing out two assists in 10 games—Takefusa Kubo’s return is one of the moves Real Madrid are considering for 2024–2025.

Manchester United need to bolster their offensive line, especially on the right wing, which is why they are interested in Kubo. The connection between Jadon Sancho and current coach Erik Ten Hag is particularly problematic for Sancho, and the scenario involving Anthony Martial and Sancho has become more complex.

However, there’s a twist. After spending several years at Real Madrid, Kubo never played at the senior level for the team. It makes sense, then, why he might be hesitant to go back.

But it appears that he would only consent to rejoin Real Madrid if he was assured of a significant and outstanding role in the club, rather than just being another player in the lineup. Ancelotti or the new manager in charge of the team would need to fulfil this criteria. He needs to cooperate in order for the Japanese attacker to accept his return to the Merengue club the following season.

At Real Madrid, getting consistent playing time is extremely difficult. Just take a look at Brahim Diaz’s situation; once a key member of AC Milan’s squad, he is now hardly used in Carlo Ancelotti’s squad. Therefore, it’s still unclear whether a Kubo comeback will actually happen next summer.

Throughout his management career, Erik ten Hag has done a good job of developing young players, and the Dutchman may be the best person to help the Japanese international reach his full potential in the upcoming campaigns.

Kubo must sign with a team where he can play frequently, and before making a transfer, he’ll probably look for confirmation from the starting lineup. Compared to Real Madrid, Manchester United may be able to offer him greater opportunities. Rodrygo Goes and Vinicius Junior are already with the La Liga powerhouses. Kubo may therefore have to make do with a supporting position at the Santiago Bernabeu.
