Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund shares his perspective on comparisons with Erling Haaland
Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund said that it is too early to compare him with Manchester City’s forward Erling Haaland.
People have constantly compared the 20-year-old to the top striker of the local rivals since he signed for the Red Devils.
The Danish international is three years younger than the Norwegian international and has less experience in the top European league. The 23-year-old City forward is also playing in a much more balanced and stronger side than Hojlund.
Hojlund spoke to TV2 (h/t Manchester Evening News) and conveyed his dislike for the comparisons he gets with the Norwegian forward. He said:
“I hope that one day I can reach his level, but right now, I think it is too early. Erling is in any case the world’s best striker, if not the world’s best footballer. I don’t really want to be compared to him, but I hope that one day I can be like him. Who knows? I am only 20 years old. We will have to see what it can end up with.”
City signed Haaland from German side Borussia Dortmund in the summer of 2022. The 23-year-old has been unstoppable for the treble winners, contributing 60 goals and 11 assists in 65 games for City.
On the other hand, United signed Hojlund from Serie A side Atalanta during the summer transfer window. The 20-year-old has given some eye-catching performances so far this season while scoring three goals in all competitions.
The Red Devils have lost six out of their 11 matches in all competitions. They have suffered from injury crises and inconsistencies since the beginning of the campaign.

Hojlund and Haaland are two completely different players with vastly different styles of play. However, both are great poachers while Haaland is far more refined in his ability than Hojlund. The 20-year-old is a long-term project yet he is already delivering in a squad that is out of form. We think that Hojlund has a great career ahead regardless of how much success his Norwegian will have.
