Benoit Badiashile’s interference helped Chelsea sign Axel Disasi which scuppered Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag’s plan.
The influence of Benoit Badiashile aided Chelsea in securing Axel Disasi, a player sought after by Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag. Both Badiashile and Disasi played together for Ligue 1 side AS Monaco before signing for the London club.
The 25-year-old has featured in each game for Chelsea this season, however, Badiashile is currently unavailable due to injury.
Chelsea are currently 11th in the Premier League table, right behind United, who are in the 10th position. Both the English giants are struggling with inconsistencies despite spending big during the summer transfer window.
Disasi spoke to Chelsea’s official website (h/t express) to reveal Badiashile’s influence in his decision-making. He said:
“He [Badiashile] told me about the project, and even though it’s a project, it’s still a really good side. He also said how he had already been convinced by the project and how everything was going well for him.”
Chelsea signed Disasi from Monaco for £38.8m during the summer transfer window. The France international made 129 appearances for the French club while contributing 12 goals and four assists.
Whereas, the Blues signed Badiashile for £35m from Monaco during the 2023 January transfer window. The 22-year-old made 135 appearances for Monaco and scored six goals while providing three assists during his tenure.
Fabrizio Romano reported that the Red Devils are planning to target defensive signing during the 2024 transfer windows. United have conceded 19 goals from 11 matches in all competitions this season.
The defensive vulnerability of Ten Hag’s men has been the prime factor in United’s abysmal season. The Dutchman is facing an injury crisis in the department that has forced the manager to play players out of position. New signing Sofyan Amrabat played some games as a left-back despite being a natural midfielder.

We think Disasi’s decision was more than just the project and a reunion with his old teammate. Chelsea have splashed the cash since Toad Boehly took over. Getting in the bidding war with the Blues is pointless and the wages they are willing to pay are astronomical.
