Manchester United legend Paul Scholes believes Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham made a wise choice in rejecting the English club.
Paul Scholes praised Real Madrid star Jude Bellingham for making the right call over his career while rejecting Manchester United. When United showed interest in acquiring him, the 20-year-old made the decision to join German side Borussia Dortmund.
Dortmund signed Bellingham in the summer of 2020 from Birmingham City at just 17 years of age. The England international became a regular player for Dortmund’s senior side immediately. Bellingham has earned a steep reputation and game experience despite the very young age in Germany.
The 20-year-old played 132 games during his time with the German giants and contributed 24 goals and 25 assists. The Englishman won DFB-Pokal with Dortmund during his time at the club.
Scholes praised (h/t talkSPORT) the level-headedness of Bellingham in deciding the best choice of club for his professional career. He said:
“We [Manchester United] were very close to signing him [Jude Bellingham], but he decided to go to Borussia Dortmund which looks the right thing from what’s happened over the past couple of years. He just stands out that much, he’s scoring goals, and he’s playing in a higher position for Real Madrid where Ancelotti probably sees him. He’s a winner, he affects games of football.”
Former Birmingham CEO Dong Ren told Mundo Deportivo (h/t Mirror) that the Red Devils made the biggest offer for Bellingham. Ren revealed that Bellingham did not make his decision based on money and decided to join Dortmund. Bayern Munich, Leicester, Chelsea, and Wolves were also among the interested parties.
Madrid signed Bellingham during the summer transfer window for 103 million euros plus various add-ons. The English midfielder has started the season for the Spanish giants in a sensational form.
