Manchester United forward Rasmus Hojlund kept his intentions clear in front of manager Erik ten Hag before joining the club. The 20-year-old made sure that he would be the one to lead the frontline for the Red Devils.

The Denmark international missed the first three games of the season due to a back injury but featured regularly since returning.

Hojlund has played eight games for the Red Devils in all competitions and scored three goals until now. The 20-year-old has received positive reception for his overall performances from both fans and football pundits.

Hojlund told Ekstra Bladet (h/t Manchester Evening News) that playing regular football was his top priority while signing for United. He said:

“I spoke to the coach up until the transfer. For me it was important to play football and if I had been told that I had to go to Manchester United to be a reserve for the rest of my days, I would never have gone there.”

United signed Hojlund from Serie A team Atalanta for £72m during the summer transfer window. The Dane stayed at Atalanta for a season where he played 34 matches while contributing 10 goals and four assists.

The 20-year-old is a left-footed centre-forward with the knack of getting threatening positions to poach goals. Standing at six feet three inches tall, Hojlund is well-built for his age and has some serious pace. However, the Dane relies on his movement and intelligence to exploit spaces within the congested opposition box.

Hojlund impressed the United fans with his overall gameplay and hard work as he relentlessly worked for his team. The 20-year-old is still raw in his technical ability and composure but already well ahead of his age and maturity. Ten Hag brought the Dane into the Red Devils squad that was starving for goals.

Even though Hojlund is completely capable of leading the forward line from the get-go, he deserves time and patience. The Copenhagen-born forward was a United fan since his childhood days but clearly has a professional head. He decided to join his beloved club only after prioritizing his development which shows his serious character and attitude.
