McGinn shares his opinion on Manchester United star Scott Mctominay’s performance boost
According to Manchester Evening News, McGinn shared the key to his effectiveness and explained that Manchester United star Scott McTominay has been another factor in his success.
McTominay’s current run of success can be attributed to manager Steve Clarke’s decision to use him in a more forward role in Scotland’s 3-5-2/3-4-2-1 formation.
At the international level, McTominay’s responsibilities seem more complex. He makes late runs into the penalty area and finishes crosses instead of retrieving the ball from his centre-backs and participating in build-up play.
McGinn said:
“He obviously noticed something in my game that he felt could help the team.
“And he has echoed that with Scotty, he has pushed him higher up. The credit I will give the gaffer, Villa have copied that with me, and Ten Hag has copied him as well.
“He is so athletic, he gets in the box and hits the ball harder than anyone I have ever played with, so it’s no surprise he is getting goals.”
The absence of a productive No. 9 doesn’t seem to matter when we have a midfielder like McTominay delivering centre-forward goalscoring figures. His athleticism is another reason for his recent success. If he continues to display the same spirit for United as he does for his nation, we believe we can go far this season.
McTominay played for United in 39 games last season, clocking 1,687 minutes in total, including 16 starts. He once more served as the deepest midfielder at the start of that season before Casemiro, who was signed in late August, gradually took his place. However, as the season progressed, Ten Hag substituted McTominay as a No. 10 in the closing minutes of games.
McTominay has made a significant contribution to Scotland’s qualification effort with six goals, second only to Romelu Lukaku’s eight goals for Belgium. Ten Hag has given Casemiro and Mason Mount more playing time than the 26-year-old this season at United. It seems that more playing time for McTominay can benefit the team in various ways.
While McTominay doesn’t play every week, he has a lot to offer and should be utilized when necessary, such as during the Brentford game.
