Louis Saha wants Manchester United to go for Ivan Toney of Brentford
Speaking in an interview as quoted by Manchester Evening News, former Manchester United player Louis Saha wants the club to go for Ivan Toney to bolster the team’s attacking abilities.
Before Toney got banned for betting, he was on a red-hot form scoring an astonishing 21 goals and providing 5 assists in the 2022/23 season. However, Brentford value the striker for a whopping £80m which might make it difficult for United to lure him.
“Ivan can adapt to any team. He’s mentally very strong, so I’m confident that he will make the right decision for himself. He can play in any team because of how strong and technically gifted he is. Ivan’s also very mobile and has the right formula you need to play as a striker for any club. Manchester United certainly need more options up front as all the top clubs have various options to choose from.”
What Saha says makes a lot of sense. Looking at Marcus Rashford so far this season, he’s been very average. His last year’s form seems to have gone and he still isn’t showing any signs of improvement. Rasmus Hojlund is the only player who has looked promising in the forward line.
According to Inews (h/t Manchester Evening News), Toney has previously been associated with United. However, Brentford has no plans to sell their prized possession yet. A substantial fee could change their mind though.
United need more mobility in the attacking half of the pitch. Toney is a versatile player who can attack as well as create more chances for the other players to score. With Jadon Sancho‘s unavailability, the Red Devils need reinforcements up top.
Ivan Toney would be much more than a striker for Man United and would offer a different profile to Hojlund. It comes as no surprise that the club are linked to him.

Bringing Toney into this squad can be a great initiative as he’s well-proven in the Premier League. He knows how the league functions and has also scored against top teams in England. Now, it remains to be seen if United manage to snap him up.
