Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag wants Marcus Rashford to do better
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag gave a post-match interview (h/t Metro) where he admitted Marcus Rashford can do better.
United lost 1-0 to Crystal Palace in the Premier League at Old Trafford after defeating Palace in the Carabao Cup. Rashford has made a contribution of one goal and two assists after playing eight games this season in all competitions.
Ten Hag emphasized in his post-match interview (h/t Metro) that Rashford and his teammates need to make better decisions offensively. He said:
“I think he knows he can do better than he’s doing now. I’m sure it’ll come. He works hard, he will finish and it will come. It’s not automatic. As you’ve seen today, we were in the right positions and the decision-making was not good enough and we didn’t score.”
The Red Devils lacked creativity and clear-cut chances throughout the game despite dominating the possession against the Eagles. Palace shored up the defense after taking the lead in the 25th minute from Joachim Anderson’s stunning goal.
United had 4 shots on target as the slow build-up and poor decision-making helped Palace to stay organized. The Red Devils played 741 passes during the game compared to the Eagles’ 221 passes.
The United boss made the substitution in the 77th minute of the game, replacing Rashford due to another poor performance.
The 25-year-old led United in goals last season, tallying 30 goals and providing 11 assists in 56 matches. Rashford is playing his ninth season at the senior level at United after breaking into the team through the academy.
Many fans and pundits have criticized the England international for displaying a one-dimensional style of play on occasion. Furthermore, Rashford’s contribution to the team has come under a lot of scrutiny as the player struggles to score.

The Englishman’s ability to beat defenders and darting runs from the left gets him in dangerous positions more often than not. Rashford relies too much on cutting inside and shooting at times which makes him predictable for the defenders.
