Manchester United legend Gary Neville holds the club’s top authority responsible for the challenges faced by Erik ten Hag
Manchester United legend Gary Neville blamed the club’s top authority on his X (formerly Twitter) platform to defend manager Erik ten Hag.
United lost 0-1 to Crystal Palace at Old Trafford in the Premier League game on Saturday. The Red Devils had defeated the Eagles 3-0 in a Carabao Cup game played a few days earlier.
The shocking defeat exemplifies the problem of inconsistency that has haunted the Red Devils this season. Off-field controversies, rumours of instability, and incessant discussions about a takeover have encircled the Red Devils for 10 months.
Neville took to his X account to emphasise the cultural issues and chaos that the club is facing. He wrote:
“Chelsea and United are the way they are currently due to cultural issues and chaos. ETH (Erik ten Hag) and MP (Mauricio Pochettino) are good managers working in very difficult and challenging environments. Look up top!”
United are lying in 10th place in the Premier League with four losses in seven games so far. Few clubs are yet to play their respective games in Matchday seven meaning the Red Devils can drop further below.
The Red Devils had to resort to loan deals during the deadline day as they were vulnerable in some positions. The Financial Fair Play (FFP) rules have restricted the club from spending extensively during the summer. United must sell players to raise funds for signings that meet Ten Hag’s requirements.
United fans have actively protested against The Glazers since they took over the club in 2005. Many pundits and football experts with closer ties to the club have criticised the infamous reign.

We think that Neville has raised some genuine concerns about the top hierarchy at United. However, the Red Devils were also facing long injury lay-offs to some of their important first-team players. Ten Hag may deserve a few criticisms like bringing Harry Maguire and Donny van de Beek when they needed a goal. The United boss deserves more time to rectify the problems to preserve the season before it is too late.
