Manchester United are interested in Bayern Munich star Matthijs De Ligt
According to the Spanish outlet Fichajes (h/t Manchester Evening News) Matthijs De Ligt, the Bayern Munich defender, is being monitored by Manchester United as we near the 2024 January transfer window.
De Ligt presents himself as one of the perfect possibilities to fulfil Manchester United’s need to strengthen their defensive line. The Dutch central defender is renowned for his adeptness with the ball and his prior association with coach Erik ten Hag from their time together at Ajax Amsterdam.
The 24-year-old’s contract with Bayern expires in 2027, and any potential transfer is unlikely to be cheap. There is a possibility that the player will cost around €80 million, a handsome amount indeed.
He certainly matches Manchester United’s aspirations to acquire an elite defender, especially given that he previously collaborated with Erik Ten Hag. This should make him familiar with the Dutchman’s system.
He will be seeking to realize his enormous potential and restart his career after a lull in form at the Allianz Arena. At this point in his career, moving to Manchester United might be a great choice for him. Being reunited with Ten Hag at Old Trafford might once more bring out the best in the centre-back.
Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez are now Manchester United’s sole reliable defenders, therefore they must try to strengthen their defence with a quality acquisition in the forthcoming transfer windows.
Since Thomas Tuchel’s arrival, the Dutchman has slipped down the food chain because of his apparent preference for Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-jae. All sides could benefit from leaving Germany, but it is still unclear how things would turn out.
