Manchester United struck with another injury crisis due to Sergio Reguilon and Lisandro Martinez’s absence

According to the Mirror, both the Manchester United defenders- Lisandro Martinez and Sergio Reguilon are sidelined due to injury. Both the defenders have so far impressed under the light of Erik ten Hag, especially Martinez who has been here for more than a year now.

An official statement from the club confirmed that Martinez had the setback occurred during our Premier League match against Arsenal earlier this month. Martinez valiantly continued to play in the following two matches against Bayern Munich and Brighton & Hove Albion.

The club statement said:

“Martinez bravely continued playing for the following two games against Brighton & Hove Albion and Bayern Munich. But it has now been determined that he needs a period on the sidelines for recovery and rehabilitation.

“Assessment is ongoing to decide next steps. Everyone at Manchester United sends Lisandro our best wishes and looks forward to him coming back as soon as possible.”

Lisandro Martinez didn’t play in the victory over Burnley last Saturday; Jonny Evans and Victor Lindelof took his place. Due to the Argentine’s absence, Evans shall now play for Ten Hag’s team for an extended period.

The news that Reguilon has also been injured has dealt a further blow to United. The left-back won’t play in Saturday’s match against Crystal Palace. United are short of left-backs now. Only Diego Dalot is there to play at his designated position.

It could have been better if Reguilon had not got injured. He has been a great performer under Ten Hag’s guidance and giving him the chance to play in the starting XI can surely reap more positive results. The game-time given to Reguilon was very much needed to boost his confidence in the league.

However, the fans can somewhat breathe easier now that Sofyan Amrabat started his first-ever game for Manchester United in the EFL Cup matchup against Crystal Palace this mid-week along with Mason Mount.

There are some encouraging developments since Tuesday’s victory over Palace. After playing 45 minutes against the Eagles, Mason Mount should be ready to start.
