Sofyan Amrabat is eager to overcome injury setbacks and make an impact at Manchester United
Manchester United midfielder Sofyan Amrabat talked to Sky Sports about the struggles he is facing after the long injury lay-off.
The Moroccan international made his first starting debut for the Red Devils against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup game. He put in an excellent performance in an unfamiliar role, earning credit.
The 27-year-old played as a left-back as United eased through the third round with a 3-0 scoreline. The new United signing is still honing his match fitness as he saw a substitution in the 61st minute.
Amrabat spoke to Sky Sports after the game to give an update on his current fitness level. He said:
“I’m not at my best at the moment because I’ve not had a perfect pre-season and a little injury. I’ve trained really hard the last two or three weeks to get to 100% but I need games. If you play games, you get stronger and better. It’s not been the most easy time but it’s clear United is a huge club. The pressure is high but we want this. We want to win and we’ll push very hard to win and give the fans much more.”
United signed Amrabat from Serie A side Fiorentina in a season-long loan deal worth £8.5m. The Reds Devils have an option to buy the Moroccan international for £21.4m. He surely has gotten off to a good start in red.
The Athletic reported that the Red Devil staff found a ‘minor back injury’ during the medical of the Moroccan international. United pushed through the deal, as they did not consider the injury serious enough to warrant cancelling the transfer.
Amrabat told the Athletic in March that the Moroccan was dealing with back issues during the 2022 World Cup.
The former Fiorentina midfielder played his last game for the Italian club in their 1-2 loss against West Ham United in the UEFA Europa Conference League final.
The 27-year-old was on the bench for Fiorentina’s Serie A game against Genoa on 20th August. However, Amrabat did not make any appearance and subsequently signed for United during the deadline day.
The Moroccan understands the expectation that comes when a player dons a United jersey. The energetic midfielder’s versatility was on full display against Crystal Palace as he played as a make-shift left-back.
