Manchester United stars Mason Mount and Harry Maguire could make a return to action against Crystal Palace in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday
Manchester United’s preparations for their upcoming Carabao Cup match against Crystal Palace have been positively impacted by two huge injury updates.
According to the club’s official website (h/t the Manchester Evening News), Mason Mount and Harry Maguire have returned to training in preparation for the upcoming match against the Eagles at Old Trafford.
Mount had been sidelined due to an injury sustained during the team’s shocking defeat to Tottenham Hotspur last month.
However, it appears that the midfielder is progressing well in his recovery and could soon be back in contention for a spot in the starting lineup.
The English star, who was the club’s first summer signing in 2023, has yet to hit the ground running in this fresh campaign. However, the fans believe that he will soon start delivering strong performances under the leadership of Erik ten Hag.
As previously mentioned, Maguire is also on track to make a comeback after recovering from a training-related injury that caused him to miss matches against Bayern Munich and Burnley.
His return could be crucial as the Red Devils face several upcoming fixtures. During Saturday’s victory over Burnley, Jonny Evans partnered with Victor Lindelof in defence, highlighting the importance of Maguire’s return, especially given his experience.
Additionally, with Raphael Varane also back in action, Maguire might have the opportunity to form a partnership with the Frenchman and prove to the manager that he should play a more prominent role in the starting lineup for the club.
It remains to be seen whether the former captain’s inclusion could be affected by Lisandro Martinez’s return to the pitch in the upcoming games.
There might be a possibility that Mount could be included in the starting lineup in the Palace clash as Man United seeks to defend their Carabao Cup title, which they won in the previous season.
Maguire, too, could be given a place in the starting lineup as the manager would try to provide minutes to these players in the cup competition.
This would be positive news for Ten Hag, who will likely need to manage his squad carefully to prevent player fatigue early in the season by rotating his options for this upcoming game.

The fans will hope that United’s appointment of Gary O’Driscoll as the head of sports medicine will help the club deal with the ongoing injury crisis.
There is still a lot of work to do behind the scenes, and keeping the players fit and running is the most important of all. After all, a team can perform better in a tactical setup if they have enough options on board.
