Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes reveals a squad favorite amid team’s struggle with form
Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes revealed that the squad is happy with winger Facundo Pellistri‘s performance despite the team’s bad form.
United manager Erik ten Hag deployed Pellistri in right-wing as the Red Devils lost 4-3 against Bayern Munich in Champions League Group A’s opening fixture.
The 21-year-old had a great chance to give his team the lead in the fourth minute of the game. He took a first-time shot, but Bayern keeper Sven Ulreich managed to save it.
Fernandes spoke to The United Stand (h/t express) about Pellistri’s availability and work ethic in the training. He added:
“Pellistri is one of the players that deserves his chances. He deserves a lot of credit for everything he’s been through and everything he has done for the team. He’s always available, he’s someone who’s always training hard, he’s someone who deserves his chances and he did well. He did the job that the manager asked him to do and we are all happy for him because he really deserves to get his chances.”
Jadon Sancho‘s fallout with Ten Hag and Antony‘s leave of absence has left the Red Devils facing a shortage in the attacking department.
Pellistri’s performance and Fernandes’ praise for the young Uruguayan is a welcoming development for the United fans.
United are having a nightmare start with four losses in six games, in all competitions so far this season.
The Red Devils have a bleak atmosphere surrounding them as the club is facing many off-field controversies and injury crises. Ten Hag must formulate immediate plans to rescue the season. He needs to attain the minimum level of success expected from the English giants.

Pellistri would be hoping to get more opportunities from his United manager to showcase and prove he can be a first-team player. The youngster is clearly doing things right to get praise from the club captain and his team-mates.
If the Uruguayan starts finishing up the chances he gets through his dribbling skills and clever movements, Ten Hag may use the transfer market to address other vulnerable areas at the club.
