Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag confirms that Sofyan Amrabat will be unavailable against Brighton

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has stated that Sofyan Amrabat will not be available to play in the upcoming Premier League match against Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday.

Although the Red Devils completed a season-long loan deal for the African star on deadline day, the midfielder was not registered in time to participate in the game against Arsenal.

While he initially joined up with the Morocco national team for international duty, he subsequently withdrew last Thursday, with Morocco’s head coach Walid Regragui citing it as a precautionary measure.

The 27-year-old has been present at Carrington since then, but the club did not include him in training photos posted on Friday.

In preparation for Brighton’s visit to Old Trafford, Ten Hag revealed that Sergio Reguilon might make his debut, but he confirmed that Amrabat would not be able to play.

In the press conference talks, the gaffer told MUTV (as quoted by the club’s official website):

“Amrabat, he came back unfortunately with the injury, so he will not be available for tomorrow [Saturday], but I think, on the short notice [soon], yes. And I’m sure we will all get joy from them.”

Currently, the exact details regarding the type and seriousness of the Fiorentina loanee’s injury remain undisclosed.

Man United have chosen a relatively secretive approach when it comes to sharing information about player fitness, often stating that players will be unavailable for “a few weeks” without specifying further details.

Ten Hag also confirmed that both Mason Mount and Raphael Varane would be unavailable for Saturday’s match due to injuries. However, it’s expected that Lisandro Martinez and Victor Lindelof will be fit to play.

Brazilian winger Antony will also miss the clash against the Seagulls. Meanwhile, Brighton have suffered a blow, as they are likely to be without the services of their young striker, Evan Ferguson, for the upcoming match. The Irish ace withdrew from international duty due to a knee injury.

Ten Hag mentioned that Amrabat‘s return might be on short notice, leaving open the possibility of him being considered for the match against Bayern Munich next Wednesday.

His absence could potentially create an opportunity for Scott McTominay, although United are expected to start with a trio of Casemiro, Christian Eriksen, and Bruno Fernandes.

The Moroccan star’s qualities, including his defensive work rate and his excellent ball control, could have been valuable against Brighton, a team known for their aggressive pressing and attacking intensity.

The fans would be disappointed to hear about the injury and would need to be patient to witness their new signing in action in the near future.
