Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch could still make a move this summer amid Manchester United links
Bayern Munich midfielder Ryan Gravenberch has expressed uncertainty about his future as he is linked with Manchester United and Liverpool.
Gravenberch, who joined Bayern from Ajax last summer, has struggled to secure a regular place in the team.
Both Julian Nagelsmann and later Thomas Tuchel have frequently opted for Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka in central midfield, limiting the 21-year-old to only three starts in the Bundesliga during the 2022-2023 season.
The Dutch star’s standing within the team appears to have diminished further with the addition of Austrian international Konrad Laimer.
Despite getting a brief nine-minute appearance in Sunday’s 4-1 victory against Augsburg, Gravenberch didn’t see any action as a substitute in the German Super Cup loss to RB Leipzig and the first league win against Werder Bremen.
Although he’s contracted with the club until the summer of 2027, there’s been talk that he might depart before the transfer window closes.
The young midfielder would need more consistent playing time to boost his chances of making it into the Netherlands squad for Euro 2024.
English Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Man United have been linked with a potential move for the former Ajax player.
When questioned about a potential departure before Friday’s transfer deadline, Gravenberch told German outlet Bild:
“I don‘t know what will happen in the next days.”
Liverpool have been in discussions with Bayern regarding a possible deal for Gravenberch, as they are working to strengthen their midfield choices. Despite acquiring Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, and Wataru Endo, the Reds remain determined to reinforce their midfield.
There are also rumours suggesting that Gravenberch might favour a move to United, who are also eager to strengthen their midfield.
The Red Devils identified Fiorentina ace Sofyan Amrabat as their primary midfield target, but a transfer has yet to materialise, potentially opening the door for the Bayern star.
Erik ten Hag’s side is open to further signings before the Friday deadline at 11 p.m. However, the manager has several issues to address within the squad before focusing on midfield.
It looks unlikely that Man United would sign two midfielders on a permanent deal, although they could land another on a loan deal.
In our opinion, although it would be great to get both stars, the club should focus on signing one player rather than getting lost in a transfer mayhem.
Both Amrabat and Gravenberch are capable midfielders and would undoubtedly enhance the United squad, with little to distinguish between them in terms of determining the better player.
Although the latter is younger, he lacks the experience that the Moroccan midfielder possesses. Gravenberch holds an advantage in terms of versatility.
He is more inclined towards attacking play compared to Amrabat but also possesses defensive skills, making him capable of covering more areas on the pitch within the United lineup.
