Manchester United reach verbal agreement with SL Benfica shot-stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos
Manchester United have reached a verbal agreement with SL Benfica shot-stopper Odysseas Vlachodimos regarding a move, according to Sky Sport reporter Florian Plettenberg on Twitter.
The Red Devils are interested in the Greece international in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, the Old Trafford side have sent the goalkeeper an offer which could see him sign until 2028.
Erik ten Hag is keen on adding the 29-year-old to his ranks this summer. However, it remains to be seen who United will end up signing between the Primeira Liga outfit’s star and Fenerbahce’s Altay Bayindir.
Vlachodimos is open to a move to the Red Devils and is ready to challenge for the number one spot. However, the Old Trafford side are yet to negotiate a price for the shot-stopper, with the Eagles valuing him at €15 million.
The Greek national has been at Benfica since the summer of 2018. Over the years, the goalkeeper has been ever-present in the Portuguese side’s starting lineup.
In the previous campaign, Roger Schmidt’s were one of the best in Europe. The Primeira Liga outfit lost just three games in the league and made it to the quarter-finals in the Champions League.
At United, Andre Onana is the new first-choice shot-stopper after the departure of David de Gea. The Cameroonian has been trusted by Erik ten Hag, who also worked with him at Ajax Amsterdam.
In the opening two games of the season, the 27-year-old has put in some impressive displays. The goalkeeper’s distribution has especially caught a lot of people’s attention.
