Luke Shaw set to be on sidelines for Manchester United due to muscle injury
Manchester United will be without Luke Shaw for ‘a number of weeks’ after he picked up an unspecified muscle injury.
The England international has been a key player for us at the start of the new season. Against Wolverhampton Wanderers and Tottenham Hotspur, Erik ten Hag trusted the left-back in the starting lineup.
Unfortunately, in a statement via Manchester Evening News, the Red Devils confirmed that the 28-year-old will be out of action and unavailable for the Old Trafford side for the upcoming fixtures.
“Manchester United defender Luke Shaw has sustained an injury which will rule him out of forthcoming games. The muscle issue is still being assessed but the England left-back is expected to be out of action for a number of weeks.”
United signed Shaw in the summer of 2014 from Southampton. Initially, injuries hampered the full-back’s game time and development at the Manchester-based club.
Subsequently, Jose Mourinho did not seem to trust the defender in his team. However, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer had faith in the English national but was unable to rely on him on a consistent basis due to his fitness issues.
Thankfully, in the previous campaign, Shaw was available for the most part and played a pivotal role in Ten Hag’s team. He made 47 appearances in all competitions in the Dutch manager’s first year in charge of the Red Devils, scoring one goal and providing six assists.
Now, in the English national’s absence, Tyrell Malacia looks like the go-to option for the gaffer. The Holland national signed for us last summer and played as a backup to the former Southampton star.
However, Diogo Dalot can also be deployed at left-back. As things stand, the Portuguese seems to be behind Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the pecking order for a place on the right-hand side of the defence.
