Manchester United willing to pay €25 million for AS Roma target and Santos striker Marcos Leonardo
Manchester United are willing to pay €25 million to sign AS Roma target and Santos striker Marcos Leonardo, according to Italian La Gazzetta dello Sport via forzaroma.
The Red Devils have joined the Giallorossi in the race to acquire the services of the forward. To that end, the Old Trafford side want to pay €20 million up front plus add-ons to get a hold of his signature.
But Roma are looking to bolster their attack with a number nine. The Rome-based club had their eyes on Duvan Zapata, but Atalanta have blocked the Colombian’s sale to their Italian rivals.
Jose Mourinho’s team also have Leonardo on their radar. While the Brazilian will not make a move in the ongoing transfer window, the Serie A outfit are looking to tie him up for January. But whether United will scupper their plans remains to be seen.
The 20-year-old made his way through the youth ranks at Santos before getting opportunities in the first team in 2020. Subsequently, the forward has become an essential player in the Brasileirao outfit’s starting lineup.
Leonardo has been ever-present for the Brazilian outfit in 2023. The striker has made 14 appearances in the league so far for them, scoring eight goals and providing two assists.
At United, the number nine position was reinforced with the addition of Rasmus Holund this summer. The Danish national signed from Atalanta but is yet to make his debut for the Red Devils due to an injury.
On the other hand, Anthony Martial is the other natural striker in our ranks. Unfortunately, the French national has been unreliable for us due to his fitness issues.
