Harry Maguire is expected to stay at Manchester United this summer
Manchester United expect Harry Maguire to stay at the club in the ongoing transfer window and have discarded plans to sign reinforcements, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on the Daily Briefing (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils were eyeing Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard to bolster their backline this summer. However, the 2018 World Cup winner has now been told that the Old Trafford side will not sign him.
The 27-year-old has been one of the best players at the Bavarians over the years. But we are set to miss out on the French national due to the former Leicester City star’s situation.
Man United had agreed a £30 million fee with West Ham United to part ways with Maguire recently. However, the England international has ended up remaining at the Red Devils as the deal collapsed.
In the summer of 2019, the Old Trafford side signed the 30-year-old from the Foxes. Initially, the centre-back was a key player for us and was also handed the captaincy after a few months into his stint at the Manchester-based club.
However, with the arrival of Erik ten Hag, Maguire has become a bit-part player at Man United. The Dutch manager does not seem to trust the defender in the starting lineup.
The English national has not done himself any favour when given the opportunities by the gaffer either. In the current campaign, the centre-back has not featured for the Red Devils so far. Therefore, it is understandable that he has been stripped of the armband.
Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane seem to be Ten Hag’s preferred options in the backline. Victor Lindelof also seems to be ahead of Maguire in the pecking order.

Thus, it would seem wise for the former Leicester star to part ways with the Old Trafford side this summer. But it looks like the club and the player have accepted the fact that the association will continue for the time being.
