Brentford striker Ivan Toney eyed by Manchester United for January transfer
Manchester United are planning on making a move for Brentford star Ivan Toney in the next transfer window, according to Football Transfers (h/t Manchester Evening News).
The Red Devils are considering acquiring the striker’s services in January. To that end, the Old Trafford side have already held discussions with the England international regarding a move.
Man United had ‘conversations’ with the 27-year-old ahead of pre-season. As things stand, the former Peterborough United star has expressed his willingness to join the Old Trafford side.
Erik ten Hag is open to adding more competition and depth to the number nine position. However, it remains to be seen whether Toney will end up at the Manchester-based club in the coming future.
At the moment, the English national is serving a ban from playing football after being charged with betting violations. The striker’s suspension is going to last until 17 January 2024.
However, there is no denying that Toney has gone from strength to strength over the years. The forward proved himself in the Premier League in the previous campaign, scoring 20 goals in 33 appearances.
In the ongoing transfer window, Man United have bolstered their front line with the addition of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta. But the Danish national has been unable to feature for the Red Devils so far due to an injury.
Anthony Martial is the other natural number nine at Erik ten Hag’s disposal. Unfortunately, the last year has seen the French national be in and out of the team due to various fitness issues. He has been unreliable.
