Crystal Palace ‘leading’ the race for Manchester United shot-stopper Dean Henderson
Premier League rivals Crystal Palace are ‘leading’ the race to acquire the services of Manchester United star Dean Henderson this summer, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.
The Eagles are looking to get a hold of the shot-stopper’s signature in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, they are hoping to beat another English top-flight team in Nottingham Forest.
In the previous campaign, the English national spent time on loan at the Tricky Trees. The goalkeeper was Steve Cooper’s first choice in between the sticks until he picked up a season-ending injury in January 2023.
Subsequently, the West Bridgford-based club have added Matt Turner to their ranks recently from Arsenal on a permanent basis. Therefore, it remains to be seen whether the City Ground side will pursue the Red Devils’ 26-year-old as well.
As things stand, the Old Trafford side are locked in discussions with the Selhurst Park side. Roy Hodgson’s team are also in talks with Henderson to understand the conditions of the deal.
The English national made his way through the youth ranks at United. However, after being on the club’s books for several years, the shot-stopper is expected to leave.
In the 2020/21 term, Henderson shared minutes with David de Gea in between the sticks. However, the Spaniard subsequently regained his place in the starting lineup, leaving the English national with scarce opportunities.
At Palace, Sam Johnston is currently the number one. However, their second choice, Vincente Guaita, is unhappy with his diminishing role at the Selhurst Park side and has an uncertain future, as per the Evening Standard.

With Andre Onana looking like Erik ten Hag’s preferred option, it seems difficult for Henderson to get regular minutes at the Old Trafford side. Thus, it would be wise for the English national to move away from the Red Devils in the coming weeks.
