Manchester United waiting for Saudi Arabian proposal for Anthony Martial

Manchester United are ‘hopeful’ that a team in Saudi Arabia will make a proposal for Anthony Martial this summer, according to 90min (h/t Manchester Evening News).

The Red Devils are waiting for a lucrative offer from the Saudi Pro League to part ways with the French national in the ongoing transfer window. To that end, representatives of the Middle Eastern country have gotten in touch with the club regarding the striker.

As things stand, the 27-year-old has been out of action for some time now and missed the entirety of the Old Trafford side’s pre-season. It remains to be seen whether interest from Saudi Arabia in him will become concrete in the coming weeks.

United signed Martial in the summer of 2015 from AS Monaco. At that time, the forward was one of the most promising young prospects in football.

Unfortunately, the French national has been unable to live up to the expectations at the Old Trafford side. The striker has been inconsistent during his time with the Red Devils.

In the previous campaign, Erik ten Hag was unable to rely on Martial regularly. The forward was on the sidelines for most of the Dutch manager’s first year in charge of the Manchester-based club.

Subsequently, Marcus Rashford played as a number nine on several occasions for United in the previous campaign. Thankfully, the English national was able to shoulder the burden of our attack.

However, the 25-year-old is not a number nine, as was evident in the game against Wolverhampton Wanderers last weekend. The gaffer also experimented with Jadon Sancho up front during pre-season.
