Manchester United defender Harry Maguire’s move to West Ham United currently off
According to the Guardian (h/t The Express), Manchester United defender Harry Maguire‘s potential summer move to West Ham United is currently off.
West Ham manager David Moyes recently admitted that the London club has reached an agreement with United over the sale of former captain Maguire.
However, the stumbling block was still getting Maguire to agree to the personal terms and to move away from Old Trafford.
That has yet to be resolved as Maguire is considering all his options, which also include not leaving United and fighting for his place here.
While there are speculations that personal terms will not be an issue, a major factor behind the move currently getting called off is the terms of payout that Maguire would receive from United if he agrees to move to West Ham.
Maguire is on a high wage at United, which was increased further when the club qualified for the UEFA Champions League while the wages offered by West Ham are not on the same level.
Hence, United have to cover the deficit, which could also be seen as a severance package and that is the stumbling block in Maguire’s move to West Ham.
There seems to be a gap between the valuation that the player feels is right and what United feels, which could ultimately result in the player staying at the club for at least one more season.
