Gary Neville feels Casemiro was “torn to shreds” in Manchester United vs Wolves
Manchester United icon Gary Neville feels Casemiro was “torn to shreds” in the 1-0 win over Wolverhampton Wanderers (Wolves).
The Red Devils took on the Molineux Stadium side at home on 14 August in the Premier League. We managed to get the three points in our first game of the 2023/24 term.
However, the Old Trafford side were arguably fortunate to come away with a victory. Gary O’Neil’s team looked threatening on the counter and bypassed our engine room on several occasions. Matheus Cunha was a threat during the entire time he was on the pitch.
Erik ten Hag started with the trusted Casemiro in the middle of the park. The Brazil international was supported by captain Bruno Fernandes and debutant Mason Mount. Unfortunately, the 31-year-old, as well as the Portuguese and English stars, were unable to cope with Wolves.
Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t Metro), Neville was left unimpressed with United’s midfield. The ex-Red Devil singled out Casemiro and felt the Molineux Stadium side did an impressive job.
“Casemiro got absolutely torn to shreds tonight. Man Utd’s midfield were non-existent and they were absolutely ripped apart. Wolves were absolutely fantastic. Manchester United’s midfield was non-existent, it emptied. That would have been a real worry for Erik ten Hag.”
Raphael Varane managed to find the back of the net in the 76th minute for us. Aaron Wan-Bissaka put the ball into the box and it was on a plate for the French national.
Casemiro played the full 90 minutes and was the best of an underwhelming bunch in the engine room. Mount had a game to forget, while Fernandes was unable to do much with the ball.
United signed the former Real Madrid star last summer. Since then, the midfielder has been a key player for the Old Trafford side and has cemented his place in Erik ten Hag’s plans.

Hopefully, the Brazilian and the others were just rusty against Wolves and will get going in the upcoming fixtures. Next up, we have Tottenham Hotspur away on 19 August.
